What is the difference between Bloomreach Engagement and Klaviyo, and how we think about choosing between them?
When comparing Bloomreach Engagement and Klaviyo, it’s important to recognize that these are fundamentally different platforms that belong to distinct categories, making a direct comparison misleading.
Bloomreach Engagement is a comprehensive solution that combines five typically standalone platforms into one tightly integrated package. These platforms include:
Customer Data Platform (CDP)
Email & SMS Marketing Platform
Website Personalization and Conversion Rate Optimization (CRO) Platform
Reporting and Analytics Platform
Product Recommendations Platform
On the other hand, Klaviyo only functions as an Email & SMS Marketing Platform.
To achieve the same level of functionality offered by Bloomreach Engagement, you would need to supplement Klaviyo with additional tools: a CDP like Segment or mParticle, website personalization tools such as Optimizely, a reporting tool like Mixpanel, and a product recommendation platform like Dynamic Yield.
Therefore, to make an apples-to-apples comparison with Bloomreach Engagement, it's essential to compare the entire marketing tech stack of integrated standalone tools (CDP, ESP, website personalization, product recommendations, and analytics platform) against it. We made this comparison in one of our past articles:
This is why we believe it's a mistake to directly compare Klaviyo to Bloomreach Engagement. It’s like comparing an entire soccer team (Bloomreach Engagement) to just the goalkeeper (Klaviyo).
Don’t get me wrong, Klaviyo is a solid “goalkeeper,” but you still need the rest of the team— tools such as CDP, website personalization, product recommendations, and analytics platform —to complete the lineup.
Note: If, after reading this article, you're thinking, "But wait, Klaviyo does offer a CDP as part of their product offering," we recommend reading the following article as well, where we share our perspective on Klaviyo's “CDP”:
